Kalamazoo Wings News Release

KALAMAZOO- Lane Scheidl forced overtime with a goal in the final two minutes, but the Kalamazoo Wings' comeback fell short as the K-Wings lost 4-3 in shootout to the Reading Royals on Zoetis Night.

A healthy scratch for the past eight games, Colin Murray made the most of his return to the K-Wings lineup. Murray put Kalamazoo on the board 7:29 into the game with a wrister from atop of the left circle. The goal was Murray's first of his pro career.

Evening the contest at 1-1 three minutes later, Kevin Walrod earned his first goal of the season, when he redirected a centering pass from David Marshall.

Needing just nine seconds of their first power-play attempt, the Royals claimed the lead midway in the second period. Immediately off a face-off in the K-Wings defensive zone, Adam Comrie (2nd) launched a slap shot over Joel Martin to put Reading ahead 2-1.

Answering back 1:24 later, Nathan Longpre (3rd), from the left corner, knotted the contest at 2-2 by bouncing the puck off the back of goaltender Connor Knapp and into the net.

Capitalizing on a five-minute power-play, Marshall (4th) regained the lead for the Royals 4:59 into the third period. The Royals finished the game 2-for-4 with a man-advantage.

With Martin pulled for an extra attacker, Scheidl (4th) forced overtime by pushing the puck over the goal line with just 1:29 remaining in regulation.

Reading outlasted Kalamazoo in the shootout receiving goals from Marshall and Cam Reid. The K-Wings lone shootout marker was registered by Alex Mallet.

Despite the shootout loss, Martin (5-2-1-1) gave the K-Wings a chance for the victory making 36 saves in the contest.
