Stingrays Cool Off Devils 6-3

Trenton, NJ -The South Carolina Stingrays (7-2-1-2) double up the Trenton Devils 6-3 Wednesday night in front 1,202 at Sovereign Bank Arena. Stingrays forward Michael Dubuc recorded four points (1g, 3a) and the Stingrays pushed their unbeaten streak to seven games.

Trenton found the twine first as forward Brett Wilson scored his second of the year from Tim Kunes and Mike Harder at 5:03 of the first period. The Devils took a 2-0 lead thanks to Scott Bartlett's wrist shot beating Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford at 10:38 of the opening frame. Defenseman Justin Coutu and Kory Nagy recorded assists. The Stingrays killed off two consecutive 5-on-3 Trenton power plays to keep the Devils scoreless on the man advantage.

The Stingrays started the second period with a jump in their step as forward Spencer Carbery knocked in a power-play goal past Trenton goaltender Gerald Coleman at 1:03 from Dubuc and Matt Fornataro. South Carolina tied the game at two with a goal from Nikita Kashirsky at 4:18 from Josh Godfrey and Keith Johnson. Just under a minute later the Stingrays grabbed their first lead thanks to Dubuc's goal from Zach Tarkir and Matt Fornataro at 5:14. Stingrays forward Gregg Johnson added a power-play marker at 16:37 to give the Stingrays a 4-2 lead heading into the second intermission. Carbery and Tarkir added assists to Johnson's fourth of the season.

The scoring continued for the Stingrays in the third period as Fronataro notched his fourth of the year from Dubuc at 5:05. Stingrays forward Gregg Johnson netted his second of the game at 13:00 to give the Stingrays 6-2 lead. Keith Johnson and Dubuc assisted on the goal. The Devils responded 2:21 later as Nagy lit the lamp from Wilson and Jeremy Akeson to finish the game scoring. Ford knocked away 23 of 26 Devils shots while earning his fifth straight win in his last five starts while Coleman is seated with the loss stopping 27 of 33 Stingrays chances.
