
Stingrays Clinch Playoff Spot in 2-1 OT Loss to Everblades

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (37-16-6-6) fell to the Florida Everblades (33-21-4-5) 2-1 in overtime in front of 6,257 on Faith and Fun Night at North Charleston Coliseum Saturday evening. The Stingrays earned one point in the loss, clinching a spot in the 2010 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
After a scoreless opening period, Everblades forward Ernie Hartlieb broke the tie at 19:30 of the second frame from rookie Brandon Buck and defenseman Brad Zanon. Hartlieb fired a wrist shot from the bottom of the right wing circle through a screen beating Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford for his 11 goal of the season.
The Stingrays tied the game late in the third period on a breakaway by forward Rob Ricci beating Everblades goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu under the left leg pad at 17:29 from defensemen Grant Farrell and Jason Fredricks. The contest quickly moved into overtime where Everblades forward Milan Gajic buried the game-winning goal between the legs of Ford at 3:44 from Buck and defenseman Elgin Reid. Ford suffers his eighth loss of the season stopping 26 of 28 Everblades shots. Beckfored-Tseu kicked away 35 of 36 Stingrays chances in the win. The Stingrays and Everblades both finished the night 0-for-2 on the power play.
The Stingrays and Everblades wrap up the three-in-three weekend series tomorrow, Sunday, March 14 at 4:00 p.m. at North Charleston Coliseum.
