Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Scott Reid stopped all 24 shots he faced while Eric Boguniecki scored the only goal Alaska would need to break a scoreless deadlock in the third period of an eventual 2-0 win over Ontario before 6,145 Friday at Sullivan Arena.

The Aces remain unbeaten in their last 12 games at home (10-0-2) dating to January 9 and move into sole possession of fourth place in the National Conference, four points behind third-place Victoria, one point ahead of fifth-place Las Vegas, two in front of Stockton, and three ahead of both Utah and the Reign, which saw its 10-game unbeaten streak snapped. Alaska and Ontario (a 5-4 shootout winner in the series opener Wednesday) meet tomorrow night in the rubber match at 7:15 p.m., when the first 2,500 fans will receive a Home Depot Mystery Gift Card that could be worth up to a thousand dollars. The game will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning at 7 p.m.

For the first time in 34 games dating to December 19, the Aces played a scoreless first period, and for the first time all season, Alaska headed to the dressing room after 40 minutes still locked in a scoreless tie with the Reign, who hit three posts. The Aces, for their part, saw Anthony Peluso hit a post and be robbed by Ontario goalie Curtis Darling late in the second period. Darling also stoned Brock McBride from point blank range in the second.

Alaska (29-26-6 overall, 20-6-5 at home) did not enjoy its first power play until the third period, and when given a second chance, Nick Mazzolini found Boguniecki unchecked in front of Darling for a virtual tap-in with 6:38 remaining, Boguniecki's second goal in as many games and 18th of the season. After the visitors pulled Darling in favor of the extra attacker, McBride lunged at a loose puck after a face-off in his own end, succeeded in eventually collecting the disc and headed toward the empty net, when he was hauled down by Reign defensman Mike Egener. Referee Geno Binda ruled the play an empty-netter with 1:47 remaining, and Alaska's victory was secure.
