Las Vegas Wranglers News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers® (29-26-7, 65 Points) defeated the Bakersfield Condors (32-24-5, 69 Points) 6-2 in front of 4,713 fans Saturday night at the Orleans Arena.
Wranglers special teams continued to shine as they went 4 for 7 with the man advantage while holding Bakersfield to a 1 for 5 conversion rate. Jimmy Spratt earned the victory stopping 35 of 37 Wranglers shots. Mick Lawrence led the way for the Wranglers with two goals while Alex Bourret, Josh Prudden (GWG), Craig Switzer and Adam Miller also scored. Bakersfield tender Tyler Sims took the loss allowing 4 goals on 20 Wranglers shots in 33:03 before being replaced by Timo Pielmeier who stopped 7 of the 9 shots he faced. Scott Marchesi and Nick Kemp scored in the loss for Bakersfield.
The first period saw each team fail to capitalize on their first power play opportunities of the night. With Stephane Goulet in the box for hooking, the Wranglers power play continued its recent hot streak as Mike Madill pinched into the offensive zone off the right point to hold the puck in for Adam Miller. Miller found Mick Lawrence, who skated out of the right wing corner to the front of the net and beat Condors goalie Tyler Sims at the 17:29 mark and the took a 1-0 lead at the intermission
In the second period the Wranglers came out strong. Alex Bourret converted a neutral zone turnover into a breakaway. Bourret skated in over the left wing side, faked a slap shot and calmly slid the puck home past a committed Tyler Sims for the 2-0 lead at the 4:51 mark. Another neutral zone turnover led to a 3-0 lead for the Wranglers as Josh Prudden and Jerry Pollastrone teamed up for the odd man rush. Prudden found Pollastrone on the right wing who in turn gave it right back to Prudden who found the back of the net. Less than 90 seconds later, with the Wranglers on the power play, Adam Miller found Mick Lawrence standing in the left wing circle. Lawrence fired home the one-timer for a 4-0 lead and his second goal of the night. The goal chased starting goaltender Tyler Sims to the bench having stopped 16 of 20 Wranglers shots.
In a penalty and fight-filled third period, Bakersfield struck first. Taking advantage of Wranglers penalties, Scott Marchesi fired home a slapshot during a 5 on 3 power play to cut into the Wranglers lead at the 4:04 mark. The Wranglers again struck gold on the power play, as Craig Switzer's slapshot from the left point 1:40 later made it 5-1. Bakersfield answered back just over three minutes later as Nick Kemp jammed home a shot from the doorstep off a pass from behind the net by Andrew Ianiero. Adam Miller completed the scoring for the Wranglers as he redirected an Alex Bourret pass past netminder Timo Pielmeier at 10:58 for the Wranglers fourth power play tally of the night.
