Elmira Jackals News Release

Elmira Jackals right winger Tyler Donati set a team record for points in one season on Saturday night at First Arena in Elmira, N.Y., reaching 94 points as the Jackals overcame three one-goal deficits before falling in overtime to the Cincinnati Cyclones, 4-3. Randy Murphy, the Jackals previous record holder, had notched 93 points in the 2002-2003 season.

The game was a back-and-forth battle, with five of the seven goals coming from special teams and the teams receiving 77 minutes of penalty time.

The Jackals' first deficit occurred when Ian McKenzie came out of the penalty box at 7:10 of the second period and skated in alone on Elmira goaltender Andy Chiodo, beating him glove side for the Cyclones league-leading 15th short-handed goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Just 21 seconds later, however, the Jackals tied the game. R.J. Anderson's shot was blocked, but the rebound came to Wes Cunningham who knocked it in from the left side to give the Jackals a power-play goal at 7:31.

At 14:57 of the second period, Maxime Lacroix scored on the power-play from the slot to make it 2-1 Cyclones.

Minutes later though, Tyler Donati scored his first goal of the game, and Elmira's second on the power play. The Oakville, Ontario native skated from the right circle to the slot and fired the puck past the stick of Cyclones goaltender Robert Mayer to tie the game 2-2. The goal was his 93rd point of the season, tying the Jackals' single-season record. Justin Donati and Thomas Beauregard received the assists on the play.

In the third period, Barret Eghoetz knocked in a loose puck in the crease to give Cincinnati a 3-2 lead at the 5:49 mark.

The Jackals had one more answer for the Cyclones. Tyler Donati's wrist shot from the slot at 11:11 of the third period once again tied the game, and put him in sole possession of first place in the Jackals single-season scoring list.

In overtime, Ryan Del Monte tipped in a Brett Robinson feed to win the game for the Cyclones at 4:09 of the overtime period.

Chiodo stopped 42 of 46 shots in the overtime loss, with his record changing to 6-3-1-0. Mayer improved to 18-8-1-0 with the 25-save effort.

Elmira's record went to 33-21-4-2, as the Jackals took a point from the contest, while Cincinnati upped its record to 39-21-1-2.

The Jackals are in Reading on Sunday evening, with the game starting at 5:05 p.m.
