Stingers Fall to Mankato in Extras

Mankato, Minn. - The Stingers lose a tough one Tuesday night, falling 6-5 to the MoonDogs in extra innings.

This was the first extra innings game of the season for the Stingers. With the international rules in play, Mankato got the bases loaded with nobody out, and Willmar pitcher Kenten Egbert walked in the game-winning run on four pitches.

Willmar struck first in the top of the first, when William Hamiter grounded out, which scored Carter Howell.

Mankato responded in the bottom of the first, when Matt Higgins hit an RBI double to tie the game. The MoonDogs went on to score the next four runs in the game to take a 5-1 lead.

Willmar responded in the top of the seventh. With two on and nobody out in a 5-2 game, Daniel Walsh doubled into the right field corner to score both runs to cut the lead to one. Jakob Newton reached on a fielder's choice to score Walsh to tie the game.

Dylan Matela threw four shutout innings out of the Willmar bullpen, striking out three.

The Stingers don't play Mankato again until Aug. 7-8, for two games at The Beehive.

Willmar is back on the road for two on Wednesday in St. Cloud. First pitch for Game 1 is at 1:05 p.m., and Game 2 will start at 7:05 p.m.
