Steelheads trade Huculak to Columbia, Wight returns

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today that Liam Huculak has been traded to the Columbia Inferno for future considerations and Travis Wight has been returned from the American Hockey League.

The 24-year-old Huculak had played in two games with Idaho before being placed on the injured reserve list on Nov. 6. The 6-5, 220-pound rookie winger played four years at Colgate University where he had 17 points (7g-10a) and 95 penalty minutes in 133 games from 2003-07.

Wight was loaned to the Steelheads AHL affiliate, Iowa Stars on Nov. 8, but did not play. He returns to Idaho where he appeared in 8 games this season, collecting 1 assist. In 2006-07, the defenseman played in 70 games during the regular season for the Steelheads accumulating 19 points (2g-17a) and 41 penalty minutes. The 25-year-old Fannystelle, Manitoba native attended college at the University of Maine from 2002-06. Wight will play in the Steelheads game tonight at Qwest Arena against the Utah Grizzlies.

Of note:

Idaho's rookie goalie, Kellen Briggs was named runner-up Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week today by the ECHL after recording his first professional win with 38 saves on Saturday night in a 7-1 victory over Alaska (1-0-0; 1.00 goals-against average; .974 save pct.).
