Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL today announced that forward Chris Blight has been named the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for November 5 through November 11, 2007. In four games, Blight registered six goals and two assists (eight points) to help the Royals take over first place in the North Division after going 3-1-0 last week. Blight started the week last Wednesday with a two goal (and three point) performance in the Royals' 4-2 win over Bakersfield Condors. In that game, Blight scored the game's first goal (at the 6:18 mark of the first period), as well as the team's fourth goal with 4:49 remaining in the game to give Reading a two-goal cushion. After being held off the scoreboard in the Royals' 6-2 loss to the Wheeling Nailers on Friday, Blight exploded for four goals-including the game winner-and five points against the Johnstown Chiefs on Saturday. In that game, Blight scored two power play goals, a short-handed goal, and an even strength goal to become the second player in team history to score four goals in a single game-and the first in Royals' history to score four consecutively in one game. (Shay Stephenson scored four goals in the Royals' 6-1 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays on November 19, 2005). On Sunday, Blight scored on his attempt in the shootout (shooting first), which proved to be the difference in the Royals' 3-2 shootout win over the Dayton Bombers.
Blight currently leads the Royals in scoring with eight goals and five assists (thirteen points) in thirteen games. Blight is the seventh player in Royals' team history to win the Player of the Week award, joining: (i) Brendan Brooks (12.03/01 - 12/09/01); (ii) Brian McCullough (10/11/02 - 10/13/02); (iii) Ryan Kinasewich (12/27/04 - 01/02/05); (iv) Mike Pandolfo (10/21/05 - 10/23/05); (v) Shay Stephenson (11/14/05 - 11/20/05); and (vi) Greg Hogeboom (12/04/06 - 12/10/06). A case of pucks will be donated on behalf of Blight, to a Reading area youth hockey organization courtesy of In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL.
The Royals return to action this Friday night (7:05 pm) when the Trenton Devils make their first appearance at the Sovereign Center in Reading. The first 1500 fans this Friday will receive a camouflage hat courtesy of Medalist Performance Apparel and Mossy Oak. The game night broadcast will begin at 6:35 pm with the pre-game warm-up show and can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1240 am and on the internet through the Royals' website, www.royalshockey.com. Streaming video is available on a pay per view basis through the B2 Networks.
