Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, have acquired goaltender David McKee from the Augusta Lynx in exchange for defenseman Nick Toneys and future considerations.
McKee, 23, is 0-1-0 this season with an 8.52 goals against average and a .806% save percentage in one start with Augusta, and 0-2-0 with a 5.11 goals against average and a .841% save percentage in two appearances with the Iowa Stars of the American Hockey League. The Irving, Texas native and second-year professional went 29-15-2 in 52 games as a rookie in 2006-07 with Augusta with a 3.35 goals against average and a .898% save percentage. He led all first-year goaltenders and ranked fifth overall in the ECHL in wins, and led all ECHL goalies with six shootout victories and a .850% shootout save percentage.
McKee also started seven games last year with Iowa going 5-2-0 with a 2.85 goals against average and .899% save percentage. Prior to turning pro, he accumulated a record of 65-24-13 in three seasons at NCAA Division I Cornell University and posted 18 shutouts, breaking Cornell hockey legend and NHL Hall of Famer Ken Dryden's career record of 13.
McKee attended 2007 training camp with the Phoenix Coyotes.
Toneys, 24, did not record a point in five games with the RoadRunners and was a minus-three.
In a separate transaction, the RoadRunners have placed defenseman Jeff Moor on team suspension. Moor left the club to pursue a playing opportunity in Europe.
The RoadRunners open an eight-game road trip at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20 at Las Vegas. Catch all the action live on Independent 1310 KXAM and www.phxroadrunners.com beginning with "RoadRunners Countdown" at 7:45 p.m.
Phoenix returns to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 as they open a two-game series with the visiting Victoria Salmon Kings.
