BOISE, ID- The Idaho Steelheads (5-3-4) topped the Stockton Thunder (6-1-3) by a 4-3 score as the Steelheads extended their unbeaten-in-regulation streak to four games. Kael Mouillierat scored for Idaho, and he now has five goals in his last three games. Mike Zacharias won his first game in net for the Steelheads.

Stockton's Chris D'Alvise gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead nine seconds into the opening period when he capitalized on a Steelheads turnover, walked into the left circle, and sent a puck top-shelf over the shoulder of Idaho goalie Mike Zacharias.

Idaho responded at 18:16 of the opening period when Mike Gabinet lofted a shot on the goal; Geoff Irwin caught the puck, dropped it, and slid a pass to Sean Backman; and Backman punched the puck behind Stockton goalie Bryan Pitton for his first goal as a Steelhead. Backman has a goal and an assist in his first two games with Idaho after being assigned to the Steelheads by the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

The Steelheads took their only lead of regulation time at 1:46 of the second period when Kael Mouillierat scored on the power play, tapping home the rebound from a Mark Derlago shot. Cody Lampl also assisted on Mouillierat's sixth goal of the season.

Idaho's lead was short, as Chris Lawrence netted a bouncing puck from the slot for Stockton to tie the game just 27 seconds later.

Stockton broke the 2-2 tie at 10:34 of the third period when Jim McKenzie sent a puck top-shelf from the top of the goal crease, just over two minutes before the Steelheads tallied the goal that eventually sent the game to overtime.

Justin Taylor converted on a rebound for a Steelheads power play goal at 12:41 of the third period; his third of the season. The second effort followed a Mouillierat attempt. Derlago and Mouillierat chipped in assists on the tying goal.

Overtime saw back-and-forth action, but both goalies were flawless in the extra frame.

The shootout was forced into two extra rounds. Shootout regulations call for five rounds, but with the two teams battling to a shootout tie, seven rounds were required before defenseman Steve Oleksy netted the difference-maker on a spectacular hesitation maneuver that deceived Pitton.

Mike Zacharias is 1-0-1 after the shootout win; he stopped 34 of 37 shots in the Idaho net. Pitton is 3-0-1 for Stockton; he stopped 27 of 30 shots.

The two teams battle Saturday night at Qwest Arena; the puck drops at 7:10. Idaho and Stockton will tangle twice more in Stockton next Thursday and Saturday.
