Ohio Lottery presents Education in Hockey Day

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP:

Tonight the Cyclones will welcome in the Gwinnett Gladiators for the first of just two meetings this season. It's "Throwback Night" at U.S. Bank Arena, where fans can purchase $1 John Morrell hot dogs, $1 Donatos Pizza, and $1 soda. Even tickets prices are getting "thrown back" to just $8. In honor of Throwback Night, the 'Clones will be wearing "retro style" jerseys that will be optioned off after the game.

SCOUTING THE GLADIATORS:

Gwinnett comes in playing the best hockey of any team in the ECHL, riding a three game winning streak while leading the Eastern Conference with an 8-2-0-2 record and a .750 winning percentage. Luckily for the Cyclones, Gwinnett's two leading scorers (Derek Nesbitt and Ryan Garbutt) have both been recalled to the American Hockey League and won't be in uniform tonight. However, their netminders are both having success to start the season. Former Michigan starter Billy Sauer has a 3-1-0-1 record with a 2.36 goals-against average while rookie Chris Carrozzi has posted a 5-1-0 mark and a 2.37 goals against average....both ranking in the league's Top 10.

MORE SHUTOUT SUCCESS FOR CHEVERIE:

Marc Cheverie posted his second shutout in three games last night, turning aside 43 shots to earn the victory. That save output was the highest a Cyclones goaltender has posted in a shutout win since the franchise resumed play in 2006. It was also the first time since November, 2007 that a Cyclones team shutout an opponent twice in three games. That year, Cedrick Desjardins posted blankings against Reading and Wheeling over the span of three games in 4 days.

THE CLOSER:

First-year forward Sam D'Agostino now owns the Cyclones lead in goals (4) and game-winning goals (2). His goal total is also good for fourth among all ECHL rookies.
