Aces Fall To Reign In OT 2-1

November 13, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

Jeff Corey went coast to coast for the game-winning goal 39 seconds into overtime as the Ontario Reign beat the Alaska Aces 2-1 at Sullivan Arena on Friday night. The game was part of the Aces two-day Military Appreciation Weekend in salute to the Armed Forces representatives in Alaska. The Aces record moved to 7-2-1 on the year, and they have points in seven of their last eight games. The Reign snapped a seven-game winless skid with the win. The same two teams will return to the Sully on Saturday night for a rematch at 7:15pm. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.

The Aces outshot the Reign 39-14 in the hockey game, and that trend began with a 14-4 outburst in the first. However, Kellen Briggs was sharp all night long for Ontario, and the game stayed scoreless deep into the third period.

Midway through the third, Scott Howes scored in his home debut for Alaska at 10:26 to break the scoreless tie. The goal sent hundreds of stuffed animals onto the ice as part of the Aces Toy Toss for the Toys for Tots Drive. The same promotion will be held Saturday, and fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped stuffed animals to the game for donation. The goal gave the Aces a 1-0 lead, but just 15 seconds later, Michael Pelech scored for the Reign to tie the game. Corey then ended it in the first minute of overtime on an end to end rush, where he delayed to the slot and wristed a puck past Gerald Coleman who had come out to cut down the angle.

Coleman (5-2-1) made 12 saves on 14 shots, taking the OT loss. Kellen Briggs (2-5-1) earned the win, with 38 saves on 39 shots. The Aces power play went 0-5, while the Reign went 0-3. The Aces outshot the Reign 39-14.

The Aces and Reign return for a rematch on Saturday, and another contest on Sunday. The Aces will once again wear military-themed jerseys, and will auction them off to fans following the game on Saturday night. You can bring an unwrapped, plush toy to the game, and throw it onto the ice after the Aces first goal, as part of the Aces Toy Toss collected for donation this holiday season. Then following Sunday's game, the Aces will host the first Fred Meyer Skate with the Aces session this season. Ticket specials are currently available through the Aces office. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.alaskaaces.com.
