Florida Everblades News Release
GREENVILLE, SC - The Florida Everblades (7-7-0) saw their six-game road trip come to a close after dropping their third straight decision to the Greenville Road Warriors (7-3-1) who rode a 32 save performance by goaltender Nic Riopel to a 3-0 victory on Saturday night at the BI-LO Center.
The opening period saw the Everblades control the play en-route to out-shooting Greenville 16-5, but it was the Road Warriors that tallied the period's lone goal. With Florida on the power play Greenville's Brendan Connolly chased a loose puck in the neutral zone down before firing a shot wide of the net. The rebound however was collected by Paul McIlveen and sent a quick pass back to Connolly who fired home a short-handed goal at 9:37.
Although the Everblades had a good chance at the start of the second period, it again was Connolly instead tallying for Greenville just 49 seconds into the period to open a 2-0 lead for the Road Warriors. Following the goal, in an odd moment, the officials sent the teams off the ice and back to the locker rooms so the Zamboni could return to the ice and re-cut the ice.
When play resumed the Road Warriors extended their lead to three on Mark Voakes' fourth goal of the season at 3:35. Voakes converted a nice cross ice pass by Marc-Olivier Vallerand from the left circle, sneaking it past Everblades goaltender Jaroslav Janus.
From that point on it was Riopel that was the difference, turning away all three shots he faced in the second period and all 13 Everblade shots in the final frame.
In goal Janus (3-3-0) suffered the loss allowing three goals on 25 shots. Riopel notched his first career shutout after turning away all 32 shots he faced to improve his record to 6-2-1..
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-of-5, while Greenville closed out the game 0-of-4.
