November 26, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
on the Fresno Falcons for the second consecutive night at the Bank of America Centre. With the 6-2 win and 24 points, Idaho gobbles up sole possession of first place in the ECHL's Pacific Division.
Idaho's goaltender Blair Allison improves his record to 6-2-0, while the Falcons Terry Friesen falls to 3-3-0.
Idaho scored first on a two-on-one when Andrew Proskurnicki slid a perfect pass to Zenon Konopka who served up a one-timer that got past a diving Friesen at 8:40. The Steelheads stretched their lead to 2-0 a minute later when Jan Kopecky dug the puck out of a crowd in the corner, and passed it to Derek Paget. Paget fed Dave Cornacchia who beat Friesen with a wrister from the slot. Fresno's Jason Weaver closed the gap to one with a power play goal on a nice pass from Greg Bullock at 18:07.
Idaho regained the two-goal lead at 2:56 of the second period when Scott Burt skated the puck down the side all alone and took a shot from the goal line, managing to sneak it between Friesen and the post. Fresno's Adam Stefishen scored next when he collected on an Idaho turnover and got a slap shot past Allison from inside the circle at 10:26. Idaho's fourth goal came at the 16-minute mark when Derek Paget drove to the net and left the puck on the doorstep for Ben Keup to tap in.
At 9:37 in the final frame, on an Idaho three-on-two, Cornacchia scored his second of the night on a beautiful pass from Burt. The Steelheads' Chris Gobert scored the final goal at 16:39 with Kopecky and Chris Marinucci each notching assists.
The Steelheads finish their three-game Thanksgiving holiday series against the Falcons on Friday, November 28th at the Bank of America Centre. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
