Wildcatters Fall to Louisiana, 5-1

BEAUMONT, TX (November 26, 2003) â The Texas Wildcatters returned home to face the Louisiana IceGators Wednesday night, falling 5-1. John Snowden opened up the scoring for the Wildcatters at the 9:37 mark in the first with his fifth goal of the season. Tony Lawrence and Cory Morgan each assisted on the goal. The IceGators answered back a minute later on a power play goal by Ben Storey. Martin Masa and Josh Mizerek each assisted on the goal. Less than a minute later, Ben Kilgour closed out the first period by netting his fourth goal of the year on a power play from Storey and Mizerek.
Jamie Johnson extended the Louisiana lead to two early in the second on a power play, making the score 3-1. Masa and Storey assisted on the only goal in the second period. Wildcatter net-minder Jason Cugnet turned away 20 of the 21 IceGator shots during the period.
Johnson tallied another IceGator goal halfway through the third from Maxime Fortunus and Masa. Louisiana would close out the scoring with just two seconds remaining as Alex Materukhin netted his second of the year from Armands Berzins and Brian Hebert. Derek Gustafson had a solid effort after the early Wildcatter goal stopping a total of 28 shots. Cugnet had 46 saves in the Loss.
The Wildcatters will play two more games at home this weekend, taking on the Columbus Cottonmouths Friday and Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. They will have a rematch against the IceGators at the Cajun Dome on Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
