
Blades Win Fifth Straight Over Stingrays 5-4

CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades (11-3-3) defeated the South Carolina Stingrays (7-8-1) 5-4 in front of 4,636 at the North Charleston Coliseum on Wednesday night. Forward Brian McCullough picked up two goals and one assist including the game winner on the power play in the third period in the Everblades fifth straight victory. McCullough currently leads the ECHL in points with 30 and goals with 14. The Blades remained in first place in the Southern Division with the win.
After a scoreless first period and several big saves by both goaltenders, the Everblades got on the board first after forward Reggie Berg sent Jay Legault in on a breakaway and Legault's backhand found the back of the net to give Florida the 1-0 lead. The Blades then made it 2-0 after defenseman Matt Pagnutti skated in on a 2 on 1 with forward Brian McCullough and slid a pass across that McCullough one timed along the ice past Stingrays goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck. The Stingrays stormed back and tied the game with two goals less than one minute apart from forwards Mike Jickling and Marty Clapton. South Carolina then grabbed a 3-2 lead late in the second period after forward Robin Gomez chipped in a pass from Dave Seitz at the 18:02 mark.
In the third period, the Stingrays made it 4-2 on a power play goal off the stick of Mike Jickling. The Everblades then came back and made it 4-3 after Brent McDonald skated out from the corner and slid the puck into the net at the 1:48 mark. Florida then tied the game at 4-4 after defenseman Jon Insana one timed a low shot past Stingrays netminder Kirk Daubenspeck after a perfect pass from Reggie Berg found his stick from behind the net. The Blades then took a 5-4 lead on the power play and scored their third straight goal when Brian McCullough blasted a slap shot past Daubenspeck at the 11:11 mark.
Florida goaltender Rob Zepp (4-1-3) stopped 34 of 38 shots he faced while South Carolina netminder Kirk Daubenspeck (5-5-1) stopped 28 of 33 shots he faced. The Everblades were 1 for 7 on the power play while the Stingrays were 1 for 9.
