Fresno Falcons News Release
BOISE, Idaho â The Fresno Falcons twice crept within a goal of the Idaho Steelheads, but the latter ended up winning going away by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday at the Bank of America Centre in front of 4,101. It was Idaho's second straight victory against Fresno, which dropped its third straight overall.
Victors by a 2-1 score the night before, the Steelheads bolted out to an early 2-0 lead for the second straight evening. Zenon Konopka opened the scoring at 8:40 and David Cornacchia added to the lead 1:01 later. Fresno responded, though, when Jason Weaver tallied his team-leading ninth of the season on the power play at 18:07, and the Falcons trailed 2-1 through 20 minutes.
The Steelheads took their second two-goal lead 2:56 into the second when Scott Burt beat Fresno netminder Terry Friesen from the base of the left circle. Adam Stefishen brought Fresno back to within one for the second time with an unassisted laser from the right circle at 10:26, but the team would get no closer. Ben Keup picked up a rebound for his first of the year at 16:00 of the second, giving the Steelheads a 4-2 advantage heading to the third.
Idaho scored twice in the third to break the game wide open to win handily, 6-2.
The loss gives the Falcons a record of 7-9-1, 6-9-0 away from home, where they have lost five straight.
