Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - In their first meeting of the season, the Idaho Steelheads beat the Fresno Falcons 2-1 at the Bank of America Centre. Idaho set the tone early, scoring their two goals within the first six minutes of play as if to erase the last meeting on April 22nd when Fresno beat Idaho 6-2 to knock them out of the playoffs. All-time, Idaho is now 30-21-4 (18-9-2 at home, and 12-12-2 in Fresno).

Idaho collected on their first power play opportunity when Michael Vyhlidal took a shot from the point, and Lance Galbraith intercepted and got it over Fresno goaltender Terry Friesen's left shoulder to put it away at 2:37 of the first. Idaho's second goal came at 5:19, after Dave Cornacchia took a shot from the point and Jan Kopecky tipped in the rebound.

Fresno closed the gap to one on an odd man rush midway through the second frame. Kevin Truelson beat Steelheads netminder Dan Ellis when he scored on a Kris Porter pass at 10:53.

In the last minute of play, the Falcons pulled their goaltender and with a five-on-three put the pressure on. The Falcons got off a flury of shots, but Ellis and his defense came up big in the clutch.

Ellis improves his record to 6-5-0, while Friesen falls to a 3-3-0 record on the season.
