Steelheads Slow Down Aces with 6-1 Win

Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads exacted a measure of revenge against the Alaska Aces Saturday night with a 6-1 win before 4,634 fans at the Bank of America Centre. Alaska came into the game riding a three-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents during that run 15-2. Included in the streak was a 4-1 win Friday night against Idaho.
The tone of the game was set 41 seconds into the game when coincidental unsportsmanlike conducts were handed down. Then, with less than three minutes played, Idaho had a five-on-three. Alaska tried to clear the puck out of their end, but Darrell Hay was there to stop it and got a slapshot past Aces netminder Lance Mayes at 3:27. Again on the power play, defenseman Wade Davis backhanded a beautiful pass to Idaho's Jan Kopecky who beat Mayes to give Idaho a two-goal lead. Alaska scored closing the gap to one at 14:55 when Dave Csumrik got one past a screened Blair Allison from just inside the blue line.
At 2:09 of the second, Idaho's leading scorer, Kopecky (7G, 7A) took a pass from Lance Galbraith and scored his second of the night. Forty-eight seconds later, Scott Burt got a breakaway, brought the puck in alone and scored with a wrist shot. Idaho increased their lead to four goals when Adam Copeland put the puck on Zenon Konopka's stick, who was waiting all alone in the slot to score his first as a Steelhead. Idaho's fifth goal came at 6:59.
Idaho continued to put the pressure on and started the third period with another goal. Derek Paget scored on an Aces turnover at 2:24 to end the scoring of the game.
ECHL's leading goaltender, Blair Allison stopped 20 Alaska shots to improve his record to 5-1-0. Alaska's Lance Mayes suffered his first loss this season and falls to 2-1-0.
Idaho heads to Alaska for a three-game series next Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. They return home to play the Fresno Falcons for three games during Thanksgiving Week.
