Florida Everblades News Release

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (8-3-3) defeated the Charlotte Checkers (3-5-3) for the second time in as many nights. A sellout crowd of 7,181 at TECO Arena saw the Blades win 3-2 on Keith Anderson's goal in a shoot out.

The Blades were leading 2-1 when Rory Rawlyk fired a shot past Florida goaltender Jeff Maund with just over four minutes remaining in the game. The two teams had golden opportunities to end the game in the extra five minute period. Charlotte forward Dusty Jamieson was stopped on a breakaway. Florida's Chad LaRose had two shots from close in the slot but he could not convert and the teams went on to decide this game in a shootout..

In the first period the Everblades were unable to get anything going offensively because they were spending most of the time on the penalty kill. The Blades killed off all four powerplay opportunites for the Checkers. The Checkers got on the scoreboard first when Kengo Ito sent an innocent shot on net that snuck under goaltender Jeff Maund's arm and into the net with 2:20 remaining. Despite being outplayed in the opening period Florida pulled even with less than a minute remaining when Carl Mallette scored off a rebound shot by Brian McCullough.

The Blades provided the only scoring in the second period when Brent McDonald fired a drop pass, by McCullough, passed goaltender Scott Meyer for a 2-1 lead.

The Everblades next game will be back at TECO Arena on Friday November 21st against the Florence Pride.

3 Stars;
