Fresno Falcons News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Fresno Falcons concluded an 11-game road trip to begin the 2003-04 season with a 5-1 loss to the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Friday at Long Beach Arena, finishing the month-long trek with a mark of 6-5-0.

The teams looked to be heading for a scoreless first period when Fresno goaltender Nolan Schaefer, who otherwise had been impressive by stopping the Ice Dogs' first 13 shots, misplayed a dump-in that rolled by him into the goal to give Long Beach a 1-0 lead after one.

Two miscues just inside the Ice Dogs' blue-line cost the Falcons goals in the second period. Long Beach's Kevin McDonald picked the pocket of Fresno' s Greg Bullock and scored on the resulting break-away at 11:22 before Jerome Marois finished off a clean two-on-zero for his first of the year as the Falcons failed to keep a puck in the offensive zone while on the power play at 19:20.

Long Beach added to their 3-0 lead when John McNabb scored at 4:59 of the third period unassisted. The only bright spot for Fresno was breaking the shutout bid of Colin Zulianello, who was beaten by Brad Mehalko at 9:03 on the power play. McNabb tallied a power play goal with :13 seconds remaining for the final 5-1 margin.

The Falcons now look forward to their home debut in their inaugural game at Save Mart Center at Fresno State on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 5 p.m. against the Bakersfield Condors.

The first 5,000 fans on Sunday will receive a Falcons lithograph, and the special-edition Save Mart Center commemorative jerseys the club will be wearing will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Fresno Junior Falcons. Sunday's game is presented by Gourmet Edibles.

Tickets for Sunday's game begin as low as $8 and are still available at the Save Mart Center Box Office, any Ticketmaster location, online by clicking on the Ticketmaster icons throughout www.fresnofalcons.com, or by calling 485-TIXS.
