Greensboro Generals News Release

GREENSBORO—The Greensboro Generals (8-4-0) had their longest winning streak of the season snapped, four games entering the contest, as the Columbia Inferno left town with a 3-2 victory in the Greensboro Coliseum. In front of 4,399 in attendance, as the Generals donned their green jersey's to honor the franchise heritage, with the retirement of Don Carter and his No. 14 jersey, marking the second player inducted into the Greensboro Generals Hall of Fame.

The Inferno (8-3-2) converted a power-play marking the first goal of the game, as Chris Pittman got a feed from Derek Eastman and Corey Hessler, giving Columbia a 1-0 lead just 2:27 into the game. Greensboro's Sam Ftorek responded with a slapper past Inferno netminder Josh Blackburn, knotting the game at 1-1. The Generals took the lead with just over two minutes remaining, as Matt Turek got a rebound from a Joel Irwin shot on goal, sending the puck top shelf giving Greensboro a 2-1 lead.

In the second period Columbia was able to take advantage of Generals defensive miscues. The Inferno's Corey Hessler scored after the puck bounced in the crease, and Hessler responded with a strong shot on net to tie the game at 2-2 at the 3:49 mark of the period. Columbia's Terry Harrison scored what proved to be the game winner, as he sent the puck past Daniel Berthiaume, giving the Inferno a 3-2 lead, the eventual final.

"It was a pretty solid hockey game with both teams working very hard. Outshooting them 40-25 (shots on goal) is tough for me to pinpoint on my team that there was any lack of work ethic. We just simply could not capitalize on any opportunities. We had three or four glorious chances to tie the game and I deem it to be our own fault that we made some costly errors that allowed them back into the game," Head Coach/General Manager Rick Adduono to said of his team's opportunity to get quality shots on goal.

The Generals now go on the road to face the Reading Royals, with a 7:00 game time on Sunday, November 16th. Greensboro returns home on Thursday, November 20th, when they begin a five-game homestand against the Mississippi Sea Wolves. Fans are encouraged to attend where all draft beer will available for $1 on Thirsty Thursday.
