Idaho Steelheads News Release
LAFAYETTE, LA - Less than 24-hours after dropping a 3-2 shootout loss at Mississippi, the Idaho Steelheads came from behind to beat the Louisiana IceGators 4-1 tonight at the Cajundome. Idaho's third win in five games on the road (3-0-2) was led by Bobby Russell's 4-point night (2g, 2a) and Brett Draney's 3-points (1g, 2a). In addition, both Billy Tibbetts and Dan Vandermeer tallied 2-points in the game.
The Steelheads are now lurking 3-points behind the Fresno Falcons for a playoff spot in the West Division. Idaho will have the chance to draw within 1-point of fourth place with another game in Lafayette tomorrow night against the IceGators while the Falcons sit idle.
Idaho outshot Louisiana 38-19 as Colin Zulianello got the win and is now 8-7-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first period, Louisiana took a 1-0 lead in the second. The tally was scored at 6:25 from Jade Galbraith who beat Zulianello inside the far post. Idaho answered back with two, the first one 4:36 later from captain Dan Vandermeer. The Steelheads took the lead on the power play at 17:07 with Bobby Russell's 21st goal of the season after defenseman Darrell Hay hit the post with a shot.
Brett Draney widened Idaho's lead when he beat the IceGator's netminder Nathan Marsters just 1:08 into the third period. Russell tallied another power play goal after Billy Tibbetts wound up to take a shot, and as Tibbetts drew Louisiana's defense to him, he passed to Russell who was wide open. Russell's second of the game was notched at 14:42.
