Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL â The Florida Everblades (36-17-8) matched a season high by winning their sixth straight game with a 7-1 win over the Victoria Salmon Kings (11-45-5) at Germain Arena. In the first ever meeting between the teams, the Everblades pleased the crowd of 7,068 with seven different goal scorers.
David Lundbohm started things off quickly for the Everblades, scoring just 17 seconds after the opening puck drop. The goal was the quickest scored by the Everblades this season. Brent McDonald chased Victoria starting goaltender Jamie McCaig by notching a power play goal at 1:38 of the first period, and just two minutes later Damian Surma squeezed a power play goal past goalie Robert Muntain to open a 3-0 lead. The Everblades also matched a season high by scoring their fourth goal in the period when Reggie Berg collected a short-handed goal at 9:08 of the frame. The goal marked the fifth time this year, the âBlades tallied four in one period. In the second period, Chris Lee notched his fourth goal of the season with a power play goal at 5:57 to open a 5-0 advantage. The Everblades took a six goal lead when Kris Vernarsky found the net at 7:19, and Matt Pagnutti talled at 18:13 of the second period to close out the scoring for the Everblades.
Everblades goaltender Tyler MacKay saw his shutout bid taken away with just 1:19 remaining in the game, but still went on to win his seventh straight start in goal for Florida. Overall, MacKay improved his record to 12-6-2 with his 22 save effort. Florida closed out the night 3-for-6 on the power play, while killing off all five Victoria power play opportunities.
