Steelheads Smother Gators 4-1

Lafayette, LA- The Idaho Steelheads scored twice in the second period and twice more in the third to earn a workman like 4-1 victory over the Louisiana IceGators. The Steelheads held Louisiana to only12 shots on goal during the final 52 minutes of play.

     After a scoreless first period, the Gators broke through at 6:25 of the second period. Pascal Pelletier hit Jade Galbraith with a head man pass, Galbraith walked in, faked Idaho goalie Colin Zulianello to the ice and wrapped the puck into the net for his 13th of the season. The next two goals went to Idaho, both scored in similar fashion. At 11:01, defenseman Dan Vandermeer blasted a one-timer from the slot past Nathan Marsters for his 5th of year and a 1-1 tie. Late in the period, the Steelheads took the lead on the power play. At 17:07, defenseman Darrell Hay blasted a one timer from 25 feet in the slot. The puck hit the post but bounced to Bobby Russell for the easy tap in, his 21st goal of the season and a 2-1 Idaho lead through 40 minutes of play.

    Idaho added two more goals in the 3rd period to make the final score 4-1. Just 1:08 into the period, Brett Draney scored his 15th of the season on a rebound to make score 3-1. At 14:42, Russell added his 2nd power play goal of the night, as he deflected a Billy Tibbetts wrist shot for his 22nd of the season. With the loss, Louisiana's record is now 20-33-6, 46 points and 5th place in the South.The Gators were outshot by Idaho 38-19. Power plays were 0-4 for the Gators and 2-6 for the Steelheads.
