Texas Stars News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Texas Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead and Maxime Lagace took care of the rest with 34 saves in net in a 3-2 road win over the San Antonio Rampage on Sunday evening in front of 7,256 at AT&T Center.
Texas (15-13-2-2) tallied of pair of power play goals for the second straight game, and Greg Rallo's second period goal held up as the game-winner. Lagace earned his fifth win of the season after being recalled on Sunday morning from the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads, and San Antonio's Spencer Martin made 32 saves in the loss.
The two teams close out their three-game series on Tuesday at Cedar Park Center at 7 p.m.
Texas opened up the game's scoring when Remi Elie rammed a shot from the right circle that caromed off Martin's leg pad and Brett Richie slid in his sixth goal of the season at 7:05 of the first. After Trevor Cheek was whistled for tripping at 16:26, the Stars scored their third power play goal in two games to take a 2-0 lead at 17:02 off Julius Honka's one-timer at the point. Travis Morin earned his team-leading 28th point with the assist.
In the second, the Stars' special teams went to work again as Rallo tipped home his 11th of the year, and seventh power play goal, at 4:36 off Esa Lindell's shot. Dennis Everberg cut into the Stars lead with a late goal for San Antonio to make it a 3-1 score.
The Rampage (14-11-6-6) wasted little time in the third to close within one when Joey Hishon snapped a wrist shot past Lagace just 25 seconds in. From that point on, the Stars and Lagace held their ground to seal the road win.
Texas finished 2-for-4 on the power play while San Antonio went 1-for-4. Rallo sits tied for second in the AHL with seven power play goals on the season, leading the Stars in that category.
