BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Mike Halmo scored twice and Adam Pelech notched two assists as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Providence Bruins 4-2 on Sunday night at Webster Bank Arena.

It looked as if Jared Gomes scored the game's opening goal just 15 seconds into the game. Taylor Beck passed the puck to the front of the net where Gomes picked it up and thought he poked it past Providence goaltender Zane McIntyre, but the goal was overturned.

The Bruins opened the scoring late in the first period after a battle along the boards. Chris Breen got the puck at the left point from Seth Griffith and fired a slap shot that trickled through the five hole of Stephon Williams from a deflection in front by Zack Phillips to make it 1-0.

The scoring ramped up in the second period. With McIntyre blinded by traffic in front of the net, Pelech found the puck and sent it to Halmo who was all alone in the slot. Halmo ripped a shot through traffic that found the back of the net to tie the game for Bridgeport at 1:09 of the second period.

With 9:50 remaining in the second and the score tied at one, the puck deflected off a Bruins stick after Connor Jones won the draw. Justin Vaive picked up the loose puck at the top of the crease and lifted it over McIntyre's shoulder to give the Sound Tigers the one goal lead.

Just a minute later, the Sound Tigers added to their lead. This time it was James Wright after Gomes won the battle of the puck in the right corner and got it over to Pelech at the left point. Pelech fired one towards the goal where Wright tipped it in.

Shortly after, Pelech turned over the puck along the boards in the defensive zone. Phillips skated in towards Williams and crossed the puck over to Griffith who took the one-timer and made it a one goal game once again.

As the second period wound down, Ben Holmstrom recovered the puck from Providence and skated deep into the offensive zone where he found the stick of Joe Whitney. Whitney got a shot off but McIntyre couldn't find the rebound. Halmo picked it up and sent a wrister past McIntyre for his second of the night.

Down by two goals, Providence capitalized on a two on one opportunity early in the third period. Griffith sent a wrister toward the goal that hit the glass behind the net. Alexander Khokhlachev recovered the puck, wrapped it around the net, and poked it between the left skate of Williams and the post.

Providence could not get the game's tying goal, as Williams finished with 32 saves for the win. Just six penalties were called in the entire game and one power play was awarded to each team, with both going 0-for-1.

The Sound Tigers next match is against the Springfield Falcons on New Years Day at the MassMutual Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
