Van Brabant's Three-Point Night Not Enough to Power Heat over Condors
December 27, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Stockton Heat News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Bryce Van Brabant racks up two goals and adds an assist, while Derek Grant extends his impressive point streak to four games, but the Stockton Heat could not complete the third-period comeback and fall to the Bakersfield Condors by a score of 5-3 at Rabobank Arena Saturday night. For Van Brabant, it was his first three-point night in his AHL career and ended a streak of four games in which he hadn't registered a point. Another four-game streak to mention is Grant's, in which he has tallied three goals and four assists in what is now a Stockton Heat high, four-game span. Unfortunately, the Heat could not fend off Brad Hunt and his two-goal night that drove the Condors to the victory. The Stockton Heat will now get set for a quick turnaround and an early evening game Sunday night in San Jose, where they'll try to get their first victory at the SAP Center this season against the San Jose Barracuda.

QUOTES
"We had a tough start and I had a bad turnover there in the first. That's not what we need in a road game. We started behind the eight ball right away and that one's on me, but we started to turn it around and gave a late push. It's just frustrating having games go the way they have these last few weeks. We've played well for two periods but seem to have one period be in a lull. We have to manage the puck better. We have to limit the neutral zone turnovers and the odd-man rushes we give up." - Bryce Van Brabant on his overall view of tonight's game.
"We have to play simple and try not to be too fancy with the puck. We just have to outwork and keep things simple. We have to create chances and put the pressure on them early." - Van Brabant on what the key for tomorrow's game in San Jose is.
"Tonight we looked like a team that was afraid to make mistakes with the puck. For tomorrow, we have to be tighter in the neutral zone and our defensemen have to play smarter when it comes to closing their gaps. Really it's just putting this one behind us and going out there and playing our game." - Head Coach Ryan Huska on his focus heading into tomorrow in San Jose.
"When you have that many guys out of the lineup it causes opportunities. Some guys were ok tonight, other guys were a little quiet tonight. These are the nights when you want them to move their game a step forward, but unfortunately we didn't get some of the efforts we wanted tonight. We have to make sure we rebound and get ready for tomorrow for an early start." - Coach Huska on his thoughts of the efforts from a younger lineup tonight.
"[Derek Grant] plays against the other team's top defensive pair every night and we need another guy to step up to take some of the pressure off of him. He's done a good job generating offense for us and his faceoffs have been good for us all year. He's a trustworthy guy at both ends of the ice. He's done a good job for us over the last little while and we want to make sure other guys are stepping up and contributing the way he is." - Coach Huska on the recent play of Derek Grant.
