February 22, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
Salt Lake City Stars News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. - The Salt Lake City Stars, the official NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, mounted a 25-point comeback on the road tonight to earn a 112-107 victory over the Lakeland Magic. The team's 25-point come-from-behind win matches the largest comeback victory in Stars/Idaho Stampede franchise history (Jan. 6, 2009 at Fort Wayne). With tonight's win, the Stars are the first team in NBA G League history to mount four 20-plus point comeback wins on the road in a single season, per the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Stars (20-19) were led by Utah Jazz two-way player Tyler Cavanaugh, who scored a game-high 31 points - his second 30-point outing in the last three games - to go with eight rebounds and four assists. Utah Jazz two-way player Naz Mitrou-Long tallied 23 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Isaac Haas and Justin Reyes each scored 13 points. Deonte Burton also scored 13 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 54.5 seconds remaining in the game, and dished out a game-high seven assists.
Lakeland (25-14) was led by Orlando Magic two-way player Troy Caupain, who scored 22 points in 40 minutes of play. Gabe York scored 21 points, while Devin Davis contributed 19 points and eight boards off the bench.
The Magic outscored the Stars 61-42 in the first half, extending their lead to 25 points (70-45) with 10:07 remaining in the third quarter. Lakeland led by 20 points (81-61) later in the frame, but the Stars trimmed the lead to single digits (85-77) courtesy of a 16-4 run. The Stars trailed by five points (105-100) with 2:23 left in the game and Burton scored eight-straight points to give the Stars the lead for good with less than a minute remaining. Salt Lake City outscored Lakeland 70-46 in the second half.
The Stars will return to Salt Lake City where they will play five of their next six games at home, beginning with a contest against the Iowa Wolves (Minnesota Timberwolves affiliate) on Monday, Feb. 25. The game tips off at 7 p.m. (MT) and will be broadcast on Facebook Live, which is accessible via the Salt Lake City Stars Facebook page.
