Stars Head Into All-Star Break Tied for First Place

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (23-13-2-4, 52 points) defeated the Toronto Marlies (15-18-5-2, 37 points) 5-1 on Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,863 at Cedar Park Center. Texas defenseman Maxime Fortunus and center Greg Rallo each recorded a goal and an assist in the Stars' 12th win at home. Defenseman Garrett Stafford tallied two assists as Texas sealed a first place tie in the West Division. Stars goalie Matt Climie (11-12-3) stopped 23 Toronto shots in the win. After the AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday, Texas will travel to Cleveland for back-to-back games against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 PM and then again on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 12:00 PM.

After a scoreless first period the Stars scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes of the second period. Center Warren Peters collected the puck off the boards and fired a shot past Toronto goalie Joey MacDonald for the 1-0 Texas lead. Maxime Fortunus assisted Peters' team-leading 13th goal of the year. At 5:06, forward Travis Morin tipped in Garrett Stafford's shot from the blueline, beating MacDonald for a 2-0 Texas lead. The Stars scored a power-play goal at 16:24, increasing their lead to 3-0. Forward Greg Rallo redirected a pass from Andrew Hutchinson past McDonald. The power-play goal was Rallo's 13th tally of the season, tying him with Peters for the team lead. Toronto countered at 16:51, trimming the Stars lead to 3-1 after a goal by Richard Greenop, his first goal of the season.

In the third period, the Stars capitalized on another power play, extending the lead to 4-1 at 10:58. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus fired a shot down the center, beating Joey MacDonald on the stickside for his seventh goal of the year. A fifth goal came at 14:17, when winger Francis Wathier ripped a one-timer past MacDonald's glove for his ninth goal of the year. Rallo set up the final tally of the night for the 5-1 Texas win.

The 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic will feature Stars defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy, competing in the 2010 Ducks Unlimited AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Monday, January 18 (8:00 p.m. ET) and the 2010 AHL All-Star Game on Tuesday, January 19 (6:00 p.m. ET). Fox Sports Southwest will be broadcasting both the All-Star Skills Competition and the All-Star Game.

Texas will travel to Cleveland for back-to-back games against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 PM and then again on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 12:00 PM. The next home game will be on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 PM against the Milwaukee Admirals. All games can be heard on the Stars flagship station ESPNAustin 104.9 FM "The Horn" or ESPNAustin 1530-AM.
