'Canes Recall Drayson Bowman From Albany

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled left wing Drayson Bowman from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rutherford also announced that forward Jerome Samson has been reassigned to Albany.

In a separate move, the Albany River Rats announced today that the club has signed forward Tom Zanoski to a Professional Tryout contract (PTO).

This marks the first NHL recall for the 20-year-old Bowman. Born in Grand Rapids, MI, but raised in Littleton, CO, Bowman has scored eight goals and notched seven assists (15 points) in 26 games with Albany in his first professional season. Prior to turning professional, Bowman (6'1", 190lbs.) played four full seasons with Spokane of the Western Hockey League, scoring 130 goals and earning 112 assists in 265 regular-season games with the Chiefs. He was the leading goal scorer on Spokane's 2008 Memorial Cup-winning team, and was named to the Memorial Cup All-Star team. The Hurricanes drafted Bowman in the third round, 72nd overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Samson, 22, tallied one assist in five games with Carolina during his first career NHL recall. The Greenfield Park, Que., native leads Albany this season in goals (13), assists (17) and points (30), while playing in 38 of the team's 40 games. Samson (6'0", 195 lbs.) has totaled 56 goals and 67 assists (123 points) in 173 career AHL regular-season games, all with the River Rats. He is in his third professional season after signing with Carolina as an undrafted free agent on July 2, 2007.

Zanoski, 24, has scored eighteen goals and notched fifteen assists (33 points) in 25 games this season with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL. The Brampton, ONT, native also made his AHL debut this season with the Binghamton Senators and tallied one assist in eight games. Zanoski (5"11, 185 lbs.) is in his fourth professional season after completing a four year Juniors career, split between the Owen Sound Attack and the Mississauga IceDogs.
