Abbotsford Heat Will Set Up Haiti Donation Stations

ABBOTSFORD BC - The Abbotsford HEAT and Global Spectrum, facility managers of the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, have announced today that donation boxes will be set up in two locations at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre in response to the earthquake and subsequent aftermath in Haiti. All proceeds collected from the HEAT's next three home games, January 15 and 16th versus the Lake Erie Monsters and January 22nd versus the Houston Aeros will be directed to Haiti Relief Efforts through the Canadian Red Cross.

"The crisis in Haiti reminds us that we are a global community and taking care of our community has always been a top priority to our franchise," said HEAT President Tom Mauthe. "The Canadian Red Cross and the Canadian Government have taken a lead role in responding. The Abbotsford HEAT and Global Spectrum will respond to this crisis in Haiti by setting up donation stations at our upcoming home games to help in this effort.

Global Spectrum will have a donation box set up at Guest services, Section 103. The Abbotsford HEAT will set up their donation box at the HEAT Headquarters location, Section 112.

All proceeds for this fundraising effort will be directed to Haiti Relief Efforts in the wake of the Tuesday, January 12th earthquake. Donations will be cash only.

Individuals seeking information on how to help can visit the Canadian Red Cross website to find out how to contribute. The Canadian Red Cross is accepting donations to support relief efforts in Haiti. The Government of Canada will also match dollar for dollar the contributions of Canadians to eligible Canadian charitable organizations, such as the Canadian Red Cross, in support of humanitarian, recovery and reconstruction efforts in response to the earthquake in Haiti, up to a total of $50 million. The Canadian Red Cross has contributed $2.7 million (in cash, personnel and supplies) to support Red Cross relief efforts in the area including $250,000 in pre-positioned relief items from Panama and $300,000 to support the work of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Haiti.
