The Norfolk Admirals and *Susan G. Komen for the Cure* will hold the third annual "Pink in the Rink" at the Admirals game at Norfolk Scope tomorrow. This popular annual event will seek to educate and raise awareness about breast cancer while also raising monies for *Susan G. Komen for the Cure*.
Events leading up to and during the game include a breast cancer informational session, survivor participation during game night, "Hockey 101- A Clinic for Women" and a silent auction for player-autographed Tampa Bay Lightning items. Even the ice will be pink.
Educating women and men about the importance of early breast cancer detection is one of the primary goals of the event. Recent polls have shown that most women are unaware of the causes of or risks for breast cancer. Game attendees will learn about local programs, support groups and how they can decrease their risk.
The "Hockey 101- A Clinic for Women" will be held starting at 6:15 p.m. Seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Norfolk Admirals have been members of the American Hockey League (AHL) since 2000. They are the top minor league affiliate of the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning. On January 16, the Admirals will face off against the Adirondack Phantoms, the top minor league affiliate of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers. The game will start at 7:15 p.m.
The Admirals will also square off against the Adirondack Phantoms tonight at Scope. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive 2009-10 Admirals playing cards, courtesy of John's Tax Service and Sinclair Communications, parent company of 93.7 BOB-FM, 96-X, US-106, WNIS AM-790, and WTAR 850-AM.
