GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - After welcoming back defenseman Doug Janik on assignment from the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday released defensemen Ryan Stokes and Johann Kroll from their professional tryouts.
Janik, 29, has earned two assists and 18 penalty minutes while averaging 13:28 of ice time through 13 games with the parent club this season. He notched his first point as a Red Wing during the team's 4-2 win over Colorado on New Year's Eve.
A native of Agawam, Mass., Janik shows 15 points (3-12-15) in 27 appearances for Grand Rapids this season and ties for fourth on the team with a plus-10 rating. He will play in his 600th professional contest - as well as his first Griffins game since Dec. 13 - tonight when Grand Rapids hosts the Peoria Rivermen at 7 p.m.
Stokes, 26, tallied one assist and 11 PIM during his seven games with the Griffins. The captain of ECHL Toledo, he shows 11 points (4-7-11) in 29 games with the Walleye and ranks among the team's leaders with 55 PIM (T4th) and a plus-eight rating (2nd).
Kroll, 25, went scoreless with two PIM during a two-game stint with Grand Rapids. Prior to his time with the Griffins, he logged seven points (1-6-7) and 14 PIM through 24 games with ECHL South Carolina.
