Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - The Greenville Grrrowl announced today that the Stanley Cup will be at the BI-LO Center on Friday, March 17th for Greenville's game against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Hockey's most famous trophy was originally scheduled to be at the BI-LO Center on December 17th, but an ice storm and power outage at the BI-LO Center forced the cancellation of that night's game. The Stanley Cup was last at the BI-LO Center when the Grrrowl hosted the ECHL All-Star game in 2000.

Earlier this season, the Stanley Cup toured nearly 20 ECHL cities to help raise money for hurricane relief efforts. The Grrrowl will be accepting monetary donations when the cup visits the BI-LO Center, with all proceeds going to benefit charities assisting in hurricane relief efforts including, but not limited to, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and United Way. This tour is another addition to the National Hockey League's charitable efforts, which have included a joint donation with the NHL Players' Association of $1 million to World Vision for Hurricane Katrina relief.

"I would like to thank Commissioner Gary Bettman and the National Hockey League, the NHL Players' Association and the Hockey Hall of Fame for their role in raising the level of awareness and assistance for people in both Mississippi and Southeast Texas, two ECHL markets hard hit by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We encourage fans in all participating cities to come see professional sport's most famous trophy and help in fundraising at the same time," said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna.

Hockey's most famous trophy has been at the center of various activities throughout the tour, including media appearances and private showings. The "Keeper of the Cup" from the Hockey Hall of Fame travels with the cup to answer questions and talk about the history of hockey. Fans may bring cameras and take photographs with the Stanley Cup and will be asked to make a monetary donation towards hurricane relief.

Grrrowl TOP DOG MEMBERS will have a chance to view the Cup one hour before the general public is allowed into the building. Top Dog Members may enter the BI-LO Center at 5 p.m. via the ROTUNDA ENTRANCE only, and they will be directed to where the Cup will be located. Top Dog Members may stay inside the building, but won't be able to go to their seats until 5:45. The BI-LO Center will have at least one concession stand open, and the merchandise stand at the Rotunda Entrance will also be opening at 5 p.m.
