Ftorek helps Lynx beat Pilots in OT
February 17, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
After serving up the game winner on Tuesday night, Ryan Lang provided the stage for overtime heroics by Sam Ftorek as the Augusta Lynx came from behind to defeat the Pensacola Ice Pilots 6-5 in overtime Friday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
Ftorek teed up a blast from just over the blue line that beat Ice Pilots goaltender David Cann over the left shoulder at 2:29 of overtime to give the Lynx the win. Ken Scuderi and Jeff Mason helped set up the goal to give Augusta (21-25-4) their second straight win and fifth point in the last six games while keeping the Ice Pilots (16-27-6) winless in their last seven games.
Bryson Busniuk and Bobby Cunningham put the Ice Pilots ahead 2-0 just 2:38 into the opening frame. From there, the Lynx unleashed the scoring hounds, notching four goals by the end of the period.
Brian Passmore started the ball rolling at 7:38, followed by a power play goal off the stick of Nicolas Corbeil just under seven minutes later to tie the game at 2-2. Joel Stepp scored during a delayed double-minor penalty at 17:15, while Chris Leinweber scored on the ensuing power play at 17:54 to send the Lynx off the ice up by a pair of goals.
From there, the Ice Pilots came right back, scoring three times to grab a 5-4 lead 2:23 into the third period. Shaun Landolt and Pete Gardiner scored on the power play while Adam Courchaine notched a regular strength marker to give his team the lead back.
With time ticking down on the Lynx and the team trailing by a goal, Augusta captain Ryan Lang stepped to the plate once again. Lang, who scored the game-winning goal on Tuesday, notched the tying marker Friday by tipping a point shot from Jeff Mason through the legs of Cann at 10:39 and forcing the eventual overtime.
Jason Wolfe turned aside 23 shots for the win while Cann finished with 34 in the loss. Augusta finished the night 2-for-6 on the power play and Pensacola rounded out the night by going 2-for-5 with the man advantage.
