Florida Everblades News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Florida Everblades (30-16-3) suffered a tough 3-2 loss to the Gwinnett Gladiators (34-11-5) on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
After a scoreless first period, the teams combined for four second period goals with the Gladiators jumping to a 3-1 lead. It was the Everblades to broke the scoreless tie when Dan Sisca scored his 19th goal of the season at 1:55 of the period.
Gwinnett responded with the next three goals, the first two from Jeff Campbell. Campbell's first of the night and 23rd of the season came at 7:02 of the frame to tie the game. Campbell's second tally of game, a short-handed goal, came after he tripped Chris Lee and went in on a breakaway, beating Everblades goaltender Kevin Nastiuk inside the left post. The play forced Lee to leave the game with a knee injury.
The Gladiators extended their lead to 3-1 when Derek Nesbitt picked up a rebound off the post and poked the puck home at 13:33.
The Everblades trimmed the lead to one with Kevin Bergin notching his 19th goal of the season at 7:15 of the third period one-timing a shot past Gwinnett net-minder Adam Berkhoel, but that was as close as the Everblades would get.
In goal, Nastiuk (4-2-1) suffered the tough-luck loss allowing the three goals, but making 33 saves. Berkhoel picked up the win, stopping 19 of 21 shots to raise his record to 4-1-0.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-for-5, while the Gladiators closed out the game 0-for-4.
The Everblades return to action on Saturday, February 18 when they take on the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:35 p.m. from the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
