BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors today announced the signing of right wing Brad Mehalko.
Mehalko, 29, was a key component of last year's team. The 6-foot-1, 190- pound forward contributed 19 goals and 24 assists in 53 regular season games with Bakersfield in 2004-05, adding two goals and an assist in last year's Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Enchant, Alberta native ranked 2nd on the team with 13 multi-point games last season. Mehalko tied for 1st on the Condors roster with three multi-goal games and carried a seven- game point streak from February 12th through March 1st, 2005.
Mehalko returns to Bakersfield after starting the season with the Port Huron Flags of the United Hockey League where he scored 18 goals and 27 assists in 49 games, ranking 2nd on Port Huron with 45 points.
Prior to his first season in Bakersfield, Mehalko played in 68 American Hockey League games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, scoring 10 goals and 18 assists in those appearances. He played 63 games during two seasons with the Canadian National Team where he recorded 11 goals and 21 assists in international play alongside future NHL stars Jason Spezza and Adrian Aucoin.
"It was a no-brainer to get Brad back in here," said Condor Head Coach Marty Raymond. "We're happy to have him and I think he can certainly help our team. He brings veteran presence, good speed, and good grit."
The Condors also announced the activation of Andrew Ianiero from the 7-Day Injured Reserve and the placement of Steve Howard on the IR. In addition, the Condors announced the release of Chris Hodgson from the roster.
