Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY - WEEK RECORD: 1-1-0 - SEASON RECORD: 13-5-2 - 1st NORTH DIVISION

BULLIES REWIND: The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies saw their 10-game unbeaten streak in regulation come to a conclusion with a loss Friday at Toledo, but started a new streak Saturday by posting a 6-1 win at Johnstown. At 13-5-2, the Bullies hold a five-point lead over the Trenton Titans in the North Division and are tied with Bakersfield for the highest point total in the National Conference and the ECHL.

Friday, Reggie Savage tallied the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal at 1:07 of the third period and Tyler Knight recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Toledo Storm to a 3-1 win over the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies before 2805 at the Toledo Sports Arena. The loss snapped the Bullies 10-game unbeaten streak in regulation. The Bullies (12-5-2) opened the scoring at 13:23 of the first period. Jason Notermann tipped Luke Curtin's rebound past the outstretched arms of Toledo goalie Logan Koopmans into the back of the net to give Atlantic City a 1-0 lead. Toledo (9-5-3) netted the equalizer at 13:16 of the second period on a two-man advantage power play. Knight collected Danny Eberly's rebound from the point to the right of the net and tucked the puck underneath Bullies goaltender Jake Moreland to tie the game 1-1. Savage was credited with his second goal of the season when his centering feed from behind the cage was deflected into the net at 1:07 of the third period to give Toledo a 2-1 advantage. Tomas Micka would add an insurance goal at 11:59 of the period to make the final score 3-1. Toledo out-shot the Bullies 44-34. Moreland made a season-high 41 saves in dropping to 10-3-1 on the year. The Bullies went 0-5 on the power play.

Saturday, Jason Notermann tallied two goals against his former club and the Bullies used a three-goal first period to defeat the Johnstown Chiefs 6-1 before 2475 at the Cambria County War Memorial. Notermann opened the scoring for the Bullies (13-5-2) at 6:15 of the first period on the power play. Derek Edwardson from behind the Chiefs net fed a wide-open Notermann cutting into the slot, and Notermann ripped a slap shot over the right shoulder of Johnstown goalie David Currie to give the Bullies a 1-0 lead. Atlantic City would make it 2-0 just 1:07 after the power play goal. As Chiefs defenseman Jeff Sullivan tried to hand the puck off to Currie with his glove, Luke Curtin intercepted the pass at the top of the crease and slapped the puck past Currie at 7:22 for a 2-0 advantage. Edwardson finished the scoring in the period when his slap shot from the right point beat Currie at 12:41 to give Atlantic City a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission. Johnstown (7-5-6) would crack the scoreboard at 3:33 of the second period. Brent Kelly took a lead pass from Matt Reid around the Bullies defense and beat goaltender Jake Moreland over the right shoulder to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Bullies though would counter with two unanswered goals. Fraser Clair picked off an errant pass in the Chiefs zone, deked goaltender David Cann, and fired a backhander top shelf at 6:02 to give Atlantic City a 4-1 lead. Notermann tallied his second goal of the game, firing a shot off Cann from the right wing circle and into the back of the net at 13:55 to give the Bullies a 5-1 cushion. Vince Macri capped the scoring at 10:02 of the third period when his shot from the right point got through traffic and beat Cann above the right shoulder. Atlantic City out-shot Johnstown 32-31. The Bullies went 1-5 on the power play.

BULLIES "TOP DAWG" AWARD: Each Monday from now until the end of the season, Public Relations and Broadcasting Manager Dan Weiss will select the Bullies "Top Dawg" for the week. This week's winner is forward Jason Notermann who returned from a two-game absence to notch three goals to help the Bullies earn a weekend split. Honorable mention goes out to defenseman Dan Peters who tallied three assists to earn his first three-point game of the season.

RIGHT OFF THE BAT: The Bullies have dominated the opposition in first periods this season. With 24 goals scored in the period against just 10 goals allowed, Atlantic City has the highest offensive output and the largest goal differential in the first period of any team in the ECHL. Their +14 goal differential for the period puts them second only to Gwinnett for highest goal differential of any period. The Gladiators have outscored their opponents 34-18 in the second period this season. The Bullies used a three-goal outburst Saturday in the opening twenty minutes to propel them to a 6-1 win at Johnstown.

MR. POWER PLAY: With a power play goal in the first period at Johnstown, Jason Notermann recorded his ECHL-leading eighth power play goal of the season. Of his 11 goals this season, eight have come by way of the power play. Notermann had only five power play goals in 68 games last year with the Johnstown Chiefs.

ON HIS WAY: With 21 points in his first 18 games entering play last week, forward Luke Curtin is on a pace to set career highs in assists and points. Should Curtin continue to produce at his current rate, he would finish the season with 64 assists and 84 points. Curtin scored the game-winning goal Saturday at Johnstown and added two assists over the weekend, and is currently second in the ECHL scoring race with 24 points, one point behind Charlotte's Mike Harder.
