Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL â Florida Everblades head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has signed defenseman Shane Hnidy to a contract. Hnidy will be in uniform for the Everblades game Tuesday at Gwinnett.
Hnidy joins the Everblades after splitting time last season between the Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators of the National Hockey League. Combined, the 29-year-old notched seven points (0g, 7a) in 46 games, and picked up 82 penalty minutes last year. Overall, the former seventh round pick by the Buffalo Sabres in 1994, has played the last four seasons in the NHL with Ottawa and Nashville. "We are very excited about the addition of Shane to our roster," said Fleming. "The NHL experience Shane bring to our club is obviously a big positive, but he also brings additional size to our defensive corps."
Hnidy brings a total of 198 games of NHL experience to the âBlades roster. The Neepawa, Manitoba native skated as a member of the Senators from 2000-03, before closing out last year with nine games as a member of the Predators. Hnidy's professional career began with four seasons in the minors, before signing in the NHL. Prior to joining the professional ranks, Hnidy spent five years at the junior level in the Western Hockey League with Swift Current and Prince Albert.
