Louisiana goes 2-1, reaches 20 points for the season

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators continued to play strong team- oriented hockey last week, posting a 2-1-0 record, earning 4 points and boosting their season record to a 9-4-2, good for 20 points and 3rd place in the South Division of the American Conference.

Last Week

On Tuesday night, the Pensacola Ice Pilots scored two late 3rd period goals, just 35 seconds apart, to defeat the Louisiana IceGators 2-1 in the Cajundome. Former IceGators goaltender Frederic Cloutier earned the #1 star of the game stopping 55 of 56 IceGators shots. Alex Materukhin scored the only IceGators goal of the night midway through the third period, his 5th of the season.

Friday night, for the second time in seven days, the Louisiana IceGators shut out the Texas Wildcatters, winning in the Cajundome by a 3-0 score. Rookie Goaltender Nathan Marsters getting his first pro shutout, stopping all 38 Texas shots on the night. David Bararuk led the offensive charge with a goal and an assist.

Saturday night, The Louisiana IceGators, playing the first game of a 5 games in 8 nights road trip, got a 3rd period goal and assist from Wes Mason and defeated the Augusta Lynx 4-2, Saturday night in Augusta. Rookie Mark Rooneem contributed his first pro goal and added an assist to aid the Gators'cause.

The Nominees are: The IceGators nominees for ECHL weekly awards are Center David Bararuk and Goaltender Nathan Marsters. Bararuk, a 2nd year center under contract to the Dallas Stars, had 4 points on the week (1-3-4) and a +3 rating. Marsters, a rookie from RPI, played all three games allowing only 5 goals on 107 shots.

The Week Ahead

The IceGators play four games in five nights as the team continues the road trip through the East Division.

Tuesday, December 7: IceGators at Augusta 6:05pm

This game will mark the third meeting of the season between these two teams. Louisiana has won the two previous games, with Nathan Marsters winning both games in net.

Wednesday, December 8: IceGators at Charlotte Checkers 6:00pm,

This will be the first meeting of the season between the Gators and Checkers. Last year Louisiana swept both games played in Charlotte.

Friday, December 10: IceGators at Columbia Inferno 6:30pm

This will be the first of four matchups between these division champions from last season.

Saturday, December 11: Gators at PeeDee Pride 6:30pm

The road trip ends Saturday in Florence, SC against the first place PeeDee Pride. The IceGators lost in their only appearance last season in PeeDee.

Broadcast Info All games this week can be heard on 960am "The Gator". In addition to the radio broadcasts, all games can be heard via the internet at www.icegators.com. There will be no video webcasts of any of the games this week.

Notes

The Louisiana IceGators have been re-assigned defenseman Max Fortunus and goaltender Kyle Kettles from the Houston Aeros. The Aeros also assigned to Louisiana right wing Marius Holtet, the Dallas Stars 2nd round pick in 2002 NHL entry draft. Holtet,is the highest drafted Norwegian in the history of the NHL. All three players are expected to be in the line up for Tuesday's game at Augusta.

On Friday, the IceGators announced that Center Mike Omicioli is leaving the team to return to Italy, where he has played professionally for the previous two seasons. In 13 games with Louisiana, Omicioli scored 13 points on 5 goals and 8 assists. No immediate roster move to replace Omicioli has been made.

Road Warriors The IceGators are currently on a five game road winning streak, Since losing on Opening Night in Mississippi, the Gators have won 5 straight away from the Frozen Swamp.

With 10 goals and 10 assists, Wes Mason has moved into the 7th spot among the ECHL's scoring leaders. Mason leads the Gators in both goals and assists. Alex Materukhin is 2nd on the team with 5 lamp lighters.

Community News

Due to the road trip, there will be no "Gator Talk" this week.

The IceGators return home to the Frozen Swamp on Tuesday night December 14th to face the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05pm. It is the beginning of "Toy Drive" week, culminating in Teddy Bear Toss night on Friday December 17. Any fan bringing a toy to these games will receive a $2.50 discount off any regular priced ticket.

Project MAMA

For the entire season the Gators are encouraging fans to participate in the Project MAMA.A list of supplies needed by our local troops serving overseas is listed at www.icegators.com. The team will have drop off points at the Cajundome for every home game and the effort will culminate in two Armed Forces Nights, December 19, 2004 and March 20, 2005. On those nights children of our deployed troops will have a special day of IceGators hockey complete with a tour of the locker room and a picture with their favorite player. That picture along with supplies will be sent to loved ones overseas.
