Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
LAST WEEK: The Pride went 2-2-0 last week with wins over Greenville and Charlotte, and a pair of losses to Florida. Pee Dee is 12-6-2 on the season for 26 points, and is in first place in the East Division, two points ahead of Charlotte.
Tuesday, November 30 @ Greenville PRIDE 3 Grrrowl 0
Nick Boucher made 34 saves for his first shutout of the season, and Kevin Cooper tallied a goal and an assist as the Pride downed the Grrrowl at the BI-LO Center. Cooper started the scoring, tallying an unassisted goal at 5:55 of the first. Chad Spurr doubled the lead to 2-0 with his third of the season at 10:18 of the opening period, and Michael Chin finished the scoring, finding the back of the net 5:33 into the second period.
Friday, December 3 v. Charlotte PRIDE 3 Checkers 2 (SO)
Pee Dee ran its winning streak to five with a shootout win over Charlotte. After nearly two scoreless periods, the Checkers got on the scoreboard first on a Mike Harder tally at 16:47 of the second. That goal ended Nick Boucher's shutout streak at 134:05. The Pride tied the game 7:52 into the third on a Brian Collins goal, and then took the lead at 13:00 on Gregg Johnson's third of the season. But, Charlotte tied it just 43 seconds later to send the game to overtime, and eventually the shootout. The Pride made quick work of the Checkers in the shootout as they scored on each of their first three shots, and Boucher turned aside all three Charlotte shooters to record the win.
Saturday, December 4 v. Florida Everblades 5 PRIDE 1
The Pride's five-game winning streak overall, and their 14-game home unbeaten streak dating back to last season, came to an end as Florida skated away with a 5-1 win. Brent McDonald tallied a hat trick while David Lundbohm added a pair of goals for the Everblades. Tony Johnson's first professional goal with 1:59 remaining in regulation averted the shutout.
Sunday, December 5 v. Florida Everblades 4 PRIDE 2
Florida took a 2-0 lead after one on goals by Brent McDonald and Matt Hendricks just 41 seconds apart midway through the opening period. Pee Dee cut its deficit in half 11:47 into the second on Kevin Cooper's fifth of the season. But, the Everblades went back up by two just 53 seconds later on McDonald's second of the afternoon. Tyler Kindle gave the Pride some hope, scoring with 1:09 remaining in the third, but Keith Anderson sealed it for the Everblades, tallying an empty-net goal at 19:07.
