The Sound Tigers tied the Providence Bruins 1-1 on the road Saturday and beat the Philadelphia Phantoms 6-2 on the road Sunday to finish with a 4-0-1 record in a stretch of five straight road games. They finished last week in fourth place in the East Division with 14 points and a 5-3-3-1 record including 4-1-2 on the road and 1-2-1-1 at home. The Sound Tigers also ended the week unbeaten-in-regulation, 5-0-1-1, in seven games in a row
SAT, NOV 8th at PRO, 1-1 T: After the teams combined for eight power plays, including one five-on-three advantage apiece, in the first period, Providence opened the scoring on the eighth advantage, which carried over through the first intermission, 1:16 into the middle frame on the third goal in two nights by CARL CORAZZINI. However, the Sound Tigers tied it at 1-1 on the first goal of the season by ERIC MANLOW at 11:24 of the second period. DIETER KOCHAN made 26 saves for the Sound Tigers while the Bruins' HANNU TOIVONEN made 35. The Sound Tigers had a 36-27 shots on goal advantage and were 0 for 8 on the power play while Providence was 1 for 4.
SUN, NOV 9th at PHI, 6-2 W: The Sound Tigers equaled their season-high for offensive output with six goals as JEFF HAMILTON, first goal and game-winner, and ROB COLLINS, both in the third period, scored twice, and KEVIN COLLEY and MARTIN KARIYA, shorthanded, scored once. Collins also added an assist, and JODY ROBINSON had two helpers. PATRICK SHARP and DENNIS SEIDENBERG scored for Philadelphia. WADE DUBIELEWICZ made 19 saves for his third win in as many starts. The Sound Tigers had a 31-21 shots on goal advantage and were 2 for 9 on the power play, including a five-on-three goal, while the Phantoms were 1 for 7 on the advantage.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK â RW/C JEFF HAMILTON
Hamilton assisted on the tying goal Saturday in Providence then opened the scoring with a power-play goal and scored the game-winner Sunday in Philadelphia. He also tied a franchise record with ten shots on goal Sunday. The former Yale Bulldog finished last week tied for the AHL lead with nine goals, five power play goals and 59 shots on goal. Hamilton also finished the week leading the Sound Tigers with two game-winning goals, four first goals and 13 points and tied for the team lead with a +3 in 12 games this season.
THIS WEEK â Sound Tigers Open Four Game Week With Veterans' Day Matinee
The Sound Tigers will play four games this week beginning with the second of four special weekday matinees at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard. They will host the Norfolk Admirals Tuesday, Veterans' Day, at 4:05 p.m. They will also visit the Lowell Lock Monsters Friday at 7 p.m. and return home to host Philadelphia Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
TUE NOV 11th vs. NOR, 4:05 p.m.: This will be the first of eight meetings, the first of four in Bridgeport, of the teams this season. It will also be their first meeting as East Division rivals. The Sound Tigers are 0-2 all-time versus Norfolk, one of only three AHL teams, along with the Hershey Bears and Manitoba Moose, they have played but not beaten during the regular season. Tuesday's game will be the last of ten straight on the road for the Admirals who begin this week in fifth place in the East Division with 13 points and a 5-9-2-1 record including 3-8-1-1 on the road.
FRI NOV 14th at LOW, 7 p.m.: This will be the first of four meetings, the first of two in Lowell, of the teams this season. The Sound Tigers are 4-2 all-time, 2-0 last season, versus the Lock Monsters who begin this week tied with the Springfield Falcons and Worcester IceCats for fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 11 points and a 5-4-1 record including 4-1 at home. Lowell will visit Worcester tonight and host Springfield tomorrow afternoon.
SAT NOV 15th vs. PHI, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the fourth of eight meetings, the third of four in Bridgeport, of the teams this season. Both teams are 5-5-1 in the all-time series including 1-1-1 this season. Philadelphia begins this week in sixth place in the East Division with 12 points and a 5-6-1-1 record including 3-3-1 on the road. The Phantoms will host the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Wednesday and Friday; Wednesday's game will be played at 11:05 a.m. at the Wachovia Center, which is the home of the Phantoms' NHL affiliate, the Philadelphia Flyers.
SUN NOV 16th vs. WIL, 4:05 p.m.: This will be the second of eight meetings, the first of four in Bridgeport, of the teams this season. The Sound Tigers are 3-0 all-time, 1-0 at home, versus Wilkes-Barre/Scranton who begins this week in third place in the East Division with 15 points and a 7-5-1 record including 3-2-1 on the road. The Penguins will visit the Portland Pirates Saturday in their only other game this week.
