
Checkers Continue Road Trip with Two Games in Florida

The Checkers (3-4-2) will continue their three-game road trip this weekend with a pair of games in Fort Myers, Florida against the Florida Everblades. The Checker will play the Everblades Friday and Saturday nights at Teco Arena with both games set to begin at 7:30 p.m. Last week the Checkers went 1-1-0, failing to get their first home win in a 4-3 loss Friday night to the Greensboro Generals while improving their road record to 3-1-1 in a 3-2 come-from-behind win at South Carolina Saturday night. Charlotte also bolstered their offense with the signing Saturday of left wing Francis Belanger. The 25 year old played has played 237 games in the American Hockey League with three teams, and ten games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens.

FRIDAY & SATURDAY PREVIEW: The Checkers will conclude a three-game road trip with a pair of weekend games Friday & Saturday against the Florida Everblades at Teco Arena in Fort Myers, Florida. This season the Everblades and Checkers are both in the Southern Division of the ECHL's Eastern Conference. Florida just completed a five-game west coast swing last week going 2-2-1. The Everblades are led in scoring by Keith Anderson and Brian McCullough, each with 21 points. Veterans Rob Zepp and Jeff Maund anchor the nets for Florida. The Everblades are affiliated with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes and the American Hockey League's Lowell Lock Monsters. Last season the Checkers swept the two-game season series, winning 5-1 in Charlotte and 5-2 in Florida.

NEWS AND NOTES:
⢠Checkers went 1-1-0 last week.
⢠Rookie defenseman Rory Rawlyk is second among ECHL defenseman in shooting percentage at .200. Rawlyk is tied for first on the Checkers in goals with three, and second in points with five.
⢠The Checkers improved both their power play and penalty kill standings this past week. The power play went from 26th to 21st. while the penalty kill went from 20th to 13th.
⢠Of 30 ECHL teams that have played a home game, the Checkers are the only team winless at home (0-3-1). The Fresno Falcons are the only ECHL team not to play a home game so far.
⢠The Checkers 3-1-1 road record is among the best so far in the ECHL.
⢠Both Checkers goalies have save percentages above .900. David St. Germain ended the week at .921 while Scott Meyer ended the week at .920.
⢠Left wing Dusty Jamieson (3-3-6). center Allan Egeland (2-4-6) and left wing Dave Inman (1-5-6) lead the Checkers in scoring, each with six points.
⢠The Checkers have the second fewest penalty minutes (140) in the 31-team ECHL. Only Greenville (139) has fewer penalty minutes. Charlotte also had the second fewest minutes per game at 15.6.
⢠Five Checkers players are tied for the club goal-scoring lead. Dusty Jamieson, Blaz Emersic, Ryan Cuthbert, Ryan Cuthbert & Lucas Lawson all have three goals.
⢠The Checkers signed left wing Francis Belanger this past Saturday. Belanger was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers, round 5 #124 overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Belanger has 237 games in the AHL, and ten games in the NHL in 2000-01 with the Montreal Canadiens.
