Amerks Play Division Rivals This Weekend

On The Ice: The Rochester Americans will play two games with North Division opponents this weekend. Rochester Americans vs Cleveland Barons

The Amerks will host Cleveland (4-3-0-2, 10 points) on Friday at The Blue Cross Arena. The contest will be the second of eight meetings between the two clubs this season. On November 8th, these two teams skated to a 2-2 tie at the Gund Arena. After the Barons picked up a two-goal lead in the first period, the Amerks answered with two goals of their own in the second to tie the game. Goals by Domenic Pittis and Milan Bartovic set the stage for the scoreless third period. Ryan Miller stopped 40 shots to earn the Amerks a point on the road. Last season the Amerks won five games in the eight-game series, including two overtime victories (5-2-0-1). The Amerks also hold the all-time series lead with an 11-6-2 mark. The Barons are led by forward Patrick Rissmiller with 13 points (6+7). The goaltending duo of Dimitri Patzold and Seamus Kotyk has shared the duties in goal this season. Patzold (2-4-0-1) has a 2.97 goals-against average, while Kotyk (2-2-1-0) has earned a 2.56 GAA. The Barons lead the AHL in goals per game, averaging 3.18, but the team is 8th in the league allowing 2.91 goals per game. The Barons power play is currently 17th in the league with a 15.5% success rate (9 for 58) and the penalty-killing unit is 22nd in the league with a 81.2 percentage (56 of 69).

Rochester Americans at Hamilton Bulldogs

The Amerks will look to take control of the season series against Hamilton on Saturday night. The Amerks and Bulldogs have both won a game in the series so far. Bulldogs forward Alexander Perezhogin scored with 3:54 remaining in the game to hand the Amerks a 4-3 loss on October 31st. Amerks forwards Derek Roy and Jason Pominville each scored a goal and added an assist, while goaltender Ryan Miller made 23 saves. The Amerks defeated the Bulldogs 2-1 on opening night, October 10th. Milan Bartovic scored the game-winning goal with 2:59 remaining in the second period. So far this season, the Bulldogs (3-4-0-1, 7 points) have been led by forwards Pierre Dagenais (8+6) and Benoit Gratton (6+8) with 14 points. Goaltenders J.F. Damphousse and Eric Fichaud have shared the goaltending load this season in Hamilton. Damphousse (2-3-1-1) has collected a 3.05 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. Fichaud (5-3-0-0) has posted a 2.96 GAA and a .887 save percentage. Overall, the Bulldogs are tied for fifth in the AHL in scoring, averaging 3.00 goals per game, and 10th in the league in goals-against with a 2.86 average as well.

Around the Boards:

- The Amerks continue to be one of the AHL's top defensive teams so far this season. The Amerks are second in the league allowing 1.82 goals per game.
- Goaltender Ryan Miller is currently ranked fifth in the AHL with a .951 save percentage.
- The American Hockey League announced today that Cincinnati Mighty Ducks goaltender Ilya Bryzagalov has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending November 9th.

SABRE TALK:

Stuck In The Middle: The Buffalo Sabres continue to battle through the early part of the season. The Sabres are 2-2-0-0 during the month of November so far. The Sabres are currently in third place in the Northeast Division with 15 points (7-7-1-0).

Sew on the "C": Chris Drury has been named captain for the month of November with Alexei Zhitnik and J.P. Dumont as assistants. Drury replaces forward Miroslav Satan, who was named the Sabres captain for the month of October.

Two Former Sabres Earn Hockey's Highest Honor: Former Sabres captain Pat LaFontaine and goaltender Grant Fuhr were both members of the 2003 class inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame earlier this month. LaFontaine collected 385 points on 158 goals and 227 assists in 268 games with the Sabres. LaFontaine holds the team record for points in a season (148), when he scored 53 goals and added 95 assists during the 1992-93 season. In 865 career NHL games, LaFontaine emassed 1,013 points on 468 goals and 545 assists. Fuhr played in 64 games with the Sabres, compiling a 25-29-5 record and a 3.60 goals-against average. In his professional career, Fuhr played in 867 games.

Leader Board: The Sabres are led by forward Chris Drury in points with 13 points (3+10). Drury also leads the team in assists (10). Forward Taylor Pyatt leads the team in goal scoring with six. Biron leads the goaltending crew, posting an overall record of 4-3-1. Mika Noronen leads the team with a 2.26 GAA and a .912 save percentage.

Sabre Special: The Buffalo Sabres will play the first NHL game ever played in Rochester on this Wednesday, November 12th at The Blue Cross Arena. The regular season contest against the defending Stanley Cup champion New Jersey Devils will start at 7:00 p.m.

Upcoming Games: The Sabres will play the New Jersey Devils in Rochester at The Blue Cross Arena at 7:00 p.m. The Sabres return to the HSBC Arena on Friday (November 14th) to face the Pittsburgh Penguins, before taking to the road for games against the Ottawa Senators (November 17th) and the New Jersey Devils (November 19th).
