Cincinnati Mighty Ducks Goaltender Bryzgalov Named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Cincinnati Mighty Ducks goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov is the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending November 9, 2003. Bryzgalov posted a 3-0-0 record, 0.67 goals-against average and .967 save percentage in three games to earn his first career player of the week award.

Bryzgalov opened the week with 16 saves in a 4-1 win November 5 at Grand Rapids, the Ducks first-ever win at Van Andel Arena. He stopped 16 shots in a 3-1 victory November 7 against Rochester and finished the week by posting his second shutout of the season with 29 saves in a 4-0 win November 8 against Toronto.

In recognition of his achievement, Brygalov will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to Hockey K.I.D..S. program in Cincinnati in Bryzgalov's name.

Bryzgalov, a second-round pick by Anaheim in 2000, is 6-3-0 with a 1.78 goals-against average and .932 save percentage in nine games this season. In his last six appearances, the 6-foot-3, 194-pound native of Togliatti, Russia is 5-1-0 with a 1.34 goals-against average and .942 save percentage.

Bryzgalov entered Monday's game at Rochester ranked first on Cincinnati's all-time goaltending leader list in games (108), minutes played (5,958), ties (13) and shutouts (seven) and second in wins (38). The third-year pro was selected to play for PlanetUSA for the 2001 AHL All-Star game and represented Russia at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, earning a bronze medal.
