Bridgeport Islanders News Release

Norfolk, VA - Kurtis McLean would score his seventh goal of the season only 30 seconds into the final period of regulation but it was not enough as the Norfolk Admirals beat the Sound Tigers, 3-2. Brandon Segal and Grant Potulny would each score first period goals for the Admirals. Sean Bentivoglio had the first goal of the game for the Sound Tigers. Peter Mannino started in goal for the Sound Tigers, making 20 saves on 23 shots while Mike McKenna stopped 30.

The Admirals would take a 1-0 lead, seconds past the five minute mark of the first period, when Segal slammed home a back-door pass from Steve Downie for his eleventh goal of the season. Jay Rosehill also had an assist on the game's first goal. Potulny would double the team's lead, 18:27 into the opening frame, sneaking a wrap-around at the left post under Mannino for his fourth goal of the year. Bentivoglio cut the lead in half at 2-1 in favor of the Admirals 24 seconds later. Defenseman Joe Callahan chipped the puck deep into the Norfolk zone where Jeremy Colliton out-raced a defenseman and sent a no-look pass in front. Bentivoglio was there waiting and wristed a shot over McKenna's glove for his fourth goal of the season.

Both teams would force the play offensively in the second period but were unable to score. Mannino's best save of the middle frame came with less than five minutes to play. Brandon Bochenski snapped a quick shot off an offensive zone face-off that Mannino crouched down and gloved to keep the score at 2-1 in favor of the Admirals entering the third period.

McLean would tie the score at three, 30 seconds into the final period of play. Mike Iggulden sent a pass to his center-man in the slot where he back-handed a shot over McKenna's blocker for his seventh tally of the season. With the Admirals on the power-play they would finally connect and score the game-winner about six minutes into the third. Jones was credited with the goal, his sixth of the season on assists from Segal and Downie.

The Sound Tigers record drops to 17-7-1-2, keeping them with 37 points and the second seed in the East Division. Norfolk was the only team able to score on the man-advantage, going 1-for-4 while the Sound Tigers were 0-for-5.
