ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today that they have recalled defenseman Ryan McGinnis from the Florida Everblades of the ECHL and have signed defenseman Steve Ward to a professional tryout contract, calling him up from the ECHL's Reading Royals.

McGinnis, 21, was recalled Friday from Florida (ECHL) and will be looking to make his American Hockey League debut with the River Rats Friday night in Manchester. The Flint, Michigan native was on Albany's opening night active roster, but did not play in any games before being loaned to the Everblades on October 14th. McGinnis (6'2", 206 lbs) has appeared in 16 games with Florida and has two points (1 goal, 1 assists) and 16 penalty minutes.

Ward, 22, returns to the River Rats after playing in 28 regular season games for Albany in the 2007-08 season and he posted 8 points (1 goal, 7 assists) and 15 penalty minutes in his first stint in the AHL. The Scarborough, Ontario native also appeared in all seven of the Rats' 2008 Calder Cup playoff games, including the AHL record-setting five-overtime game in Game 5. Ward (6'0", 191 lbs) started the 2007-08 season with the ECHL's Reading Royals and had 9 points (2 goals, 7 assists) in 18 games played.

Both players are expected to be in the lineup tonight as Albany completes a three-game road stretch on Friday, December 12th with a 7:30 pm face off against the Manchester Monarchs at Verizon Wireless Arena. Albany's next home game is set for Saturday, December 13th as they host the Binghamton Senators for a 7:00 pm face off at the Times Union Center.
