AHL Manchester Monarchs

Free Admission To Game For Those Who Have Lost Power

December 12, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs have announced that tonight's game will be played as scheduled. In addition, the Monarchs are offering free admission to tonight's contest against the Albany River Rats at 7:30 p.m. to those who have lost power in their homes. Those fans who have lost power can gain admission to the game, free of charge, by visiting the Verizon Wireless Arena Box Office today up through game time.

"We are opening our doors and offering tonight's game for free to those affected by today's ice storm," said Monarchs President Jeff Eisenberg. "Tonight's game is a temporary relief for the community to seek shelter and enjoy some entertainment for a couple of hours."

It is standard practice to play a regulation American Hockey League contest when both teams and the on-ice officials are able to travel to the game. Albany is in town and participated in their morning skate at the arena today.

The Verizon Wireless Arena has not experienced any power outages and is running at full power. Those companies in the city that have power, including city offices, are open and working today. Given this information, the Monarchs felt it was appropriate to play Friday's game.

"The safety of our fans and the public are of utmost concern," said Eisenberg. "If you have tickets to tonight's game and feel the circumstances make it difficult for you to attend, we will honor your ticket for a future game of your choice this season."

The Monarchs want to remind those in the community who are concerned about shelter to check with your local officials for assistance.
